Mobile-based buys account for almost a third of the movie site's total sales.
Summer has had an encouraging impact on American mobile shopping, with the season supporting 38 per cent and 26 per cent spending/web traffic spikes for dealnews and Travelzoo, respectively.
Now, online film portal Fandango reports the best financial summer in its 12 year history, attributing the success to its mobile platforms.
Fandango app downloads are up 43 per cent year-on-year to push total downloads past 26m, while sales via mobile have risen by 116 per cent year-on-year.
As it stands, mobile sales now account for around 30 per cent of all tickets sold this summer – a new record.
Rick Butler, exec VP and GM, Fandango, said: "Fandango continues to be on a roll. This summer’s record performance is a testament to our new exhibitor and portal partnerships, as well as our mobile and social innovations which have made Fandango the easiest and most convenient way to go to the movies."
