Company prepares for iOS 6.

Facebook has released a beta version of Facebook SDK 3.0 for iOS, the biggest iOS SDK update the company has ever done.

The update will allow Facebook to compete for evenly with Twitter, particularly when combined with the anticipated update for Facebook for mobile.

The SDK update will allow better session management, new native UI calls within apps, improved API support, and better iOS 6 integration. The new version of iOS will allow developers to build one-click Facebook login for quick app access, helping Facebook to compete with Twitter.

The SDK 3.0 for iOS is backwards compatible and will automatically use the native Facebook Login in iOS 6 when it becomes available, ensuring that apps will work seamlessly on all iOS versions 4.0 and later.

Full details can be found in this Facebook developer blog post.

More than 500 million people access Facebook via mobile devices, and between November and December 2011, there were 99,800,000 active users on Facebook for iPhone.
