Henri Moissinac dishes stats and unveils Facebook Connect for the mobile web.
Facebook's mobile boss Henri Moissinac says that 65 million people accessed the social network through their phones in the last month - including its mobile site, SMS and its various mobile apps.
"This is really big news," he told the Nokia World conference this morning. "And our mobile users are twice as engaged as users of the website."
However, the big news was Facebook's launch of Facebook Connect for the mobile web today, "Any site, any application o any platform" can hook into Facebook's APIs. Thus far, it's only been available for websites and iPhone. So today's announcement takes that beyond Apple's devies on mobile.
Moissinac stressed the importance of mobile developers to Facebook: "Developers are the most important asset to the industry," he said, while announcing Facebook Connect for the mobile Web.
Moissinac also revealed that Facebook has deals with 180 mobile operators across the world, and said the US, Canada and UK are the biggest markets for mobile use, although emerging markets are also growing fast.
