Facebook Comments rolls out to mobile sites

Mobile option now available for the 400,000 websites that have introduced the plugin so far.

The Facebook Comments plugin has been available for third party sites for some time, and is a vital part of Facebook's policy of taking its site where its users are, rather than forcing them to interact only with the Facebook site.

Now, it's extending the API so that if a website has a Facebook Comments plugin installed, it will also appear on the mobile version of the site.

Its blog said: "Today we’re launching the Comments Box plugin for mobile to make it easier for media sites to engage people across the web and mobile devices, and for people to comment on news regardless of where they’re reading it.

"The Comments Box for mobile is the latest update to the plugin to make commenting more social and authentic, improve the quality of conversations online, and drive traffic and engagement to media sites.

"For example, in December we added a Subscribe link in the plugin next to the names of people who’ve turned on Subscribe to help them grow their Subscriber base."

Facebook has 800 million users, which has been predicted to grow to one billion in August 2012. More than 350 million of that number access their account via mobile device.
