Evernote acquires Skitch

Note-taking app specialist snaps up Australian digital imaging firm.

Evernote lets users store notes, photos, PDFs and other docs in online folders that are accessible from any connected device. It's become a darling of the iPad community and has 12 million users.

The Skitch app is based around screenshots, allowing users to manipulate and forward them in multiple ways. It will now be given away for free as part of Evernote.

"We love Skitch so much that we decided to buy the company. Skitch is an amazing Mac application that’s changed the way people capture, annotate and share images," said Evernote CEO Phil Libin.

Alongside this announcement, Evernote has confirmed that it is to add an NFC 'touch' capability to its app based on Touchanote – the Android application that took home the $50,000 prize at Evernote’s recent developer conference in San Francisco.

It lets users associate a note in Evernote with a particular NFC tag just by tapping or waving the device at it.
