The number of operators committing to EV-DO-based 3G networks has doubled in the last eight months.
Forty-seven operators across 33 countries have opted to use EV-DO network technology to power 3G services, with 13 now live commercially according to the CDMA Development Group.EV-DO is the 3G extension of the CDMA2000 mobile network technology used predominantly in the Americas and parts of Asia. In September the CDG predicted there would be 100 million EV-DO users globally by the end of this year.
Conversely, the rival GSM family of 3G technologies (WCMA/UMTS) had 131 million users at the end of June 2007.
