European mobile ad market grows 53 per cent in 90 days

And smartphone impressions double.

Research from InMobi's Mobile Insights Report: Quarter Ending October 2011 shows a remarkable climb in mobile ad impression during the period.

It said total impressions grew 53 per cent, but smartphone impressions leapt by 97 per cent. It also revealed that the smartphone has increased its share of overall traffic from 53 per cent in the three months to July 2011 to 71 per cent for the quarter to October.

Unsurprisingly Android was driving the spike, raising its share of traffic from 22.3 per cent to 27.9 per cent. iOS sustained its share at 14.7 per cent (up from 14.2 per cent).

But in terms of individual devices, Apple leads the way. The report reveals that iPhone 4  grabbed a seven per cent share), followed by the Samsung Galaxy S (four per cent) and HTC Desire S (three per cent).

InMobi itself now handles nearly 21.9 billion impressions per quarter in the region.

James Lamberti, VP of global research and marketing at InMobi, said: "We’ve seen mobile usage continue to grow throughout the year and, with Smartphone impressions almost doubling in the last three months, there is now a clear opportunity for advertisers.

"Consumers are more willing than ever to engage with mobile as a channel, and are now embracing the technology that will allow brands to engage with them using innovative and creative rich media campaigns.”
