European Parliament "95 per cent agreed" on telecoms shake-up plans.
The EU is close to finalising its controversial reforms of the European telecoms market, with big implications for mobile in particular.
The European Parliament has already voted in favour of introducing pricing caps for cross-border mobile data usage from July this year.
But now EU Telecoms Commissioner Viviane Reding has said the wider reform package is now 95 per cent agreed, encompassing a new EU supervisory body, new consumer rights and powers for local regulators to enforce greater competition.
Mobile operators have long maintained that the reform - particularly for roaming data pricing - will erode their margins and prevent future investment.
The EU maintains, however, that its reforms will encourage greater usage of such services and therefore upside for operators.
