Wholesale price of data is now pegged at 1 per MB.
The European Union has today formally introduced new mobile roaming price caps, which should see consumers benefit from much lower voice, text and data charges while traveling.
The wholesale price of data is now capped at €1 per MB, and will fall further to €0.80 and €0.50 in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Prior to the new rules, the average cost per MB was €1.68.
Meanwhile, a text message now costs a maximum of €0.11 while roaming, compared to the previous industry average of €0.28.
Voice is now capped at €0.43 a minute to make a call and €0.19 to receive.
