The European Parliament has voted in favour of introducing pricing caps for cross-boarder mobile data usage.According to the FT, wholesale prices of data will be capped at 50 cents per MB from July this year.
This is way under the €1 ($1.3) level that the industry had asked for by way of compromise.
Average end-user prices for 1MB of roaming data are just under €4 according to the article.
The EU telecoms commissioner Viviane Reding said the vote was "very good news for consumers".

However, mobile operators have been arguing that any cap in roaming fees will directly affect their ability to invest in new services, and may even result in price rises for the end-user.
