Partners with UrFilez on Spotify-like service.
The first phase of the project will be in Nigeria and Tanzania with the remaining 16 markets to follow.
UrFilez is available on iPhone, Blackberry, and Android and can be downloaded from the main OEM app stores as well as UrFilez.com.
The Bahrain-based company has built a Spotify-like service that also appears to offer a Pandora-style 'personalised radio station' function. Its web site says it has around four million licensed DRM free tracks from all majors and indies.
There's no info from Etisalat on how it's pricing the service.
Essa Al Haddad, Etisalat group's chief commercial officer , said: "in most of emerging markets, people under the age of 25 make up 50 per cent or more of the total population.
"That means fresh and cool content and applications are on high demand via mobile, audio and video entertainment and social networking.

"The growing need for information and the low PC and Internet penetration rate in these markets make wireless Internet access via mobile devices a much more viable solution. Consequently partnering with a leading digital music company like UrFilez will provide our subscribers round the globe with access to the music they covet and on the go."
Etisilat has over 140 million customers in 18 countries.
