Sports broadcaster breaks out mobile and online stats
ESPN says its FIFA World Cup app has been downloaded more than 2.5 million times, with an average of one million users accessing it each day during the four-week tournament.
The mobile TV element (available in the US via FLO TV and MobiTV) attracted one million users who watched for two million hours in total.
In terms of online, ESPN says 7.4 million people tuned in to watch World Cup matches on ESPN3.com.
The World Cup has provided a welcome fillip to mobile TV companies, particularly in the US, where FLO TV saw average game viewership spiking to 41 minutes, while MobiTV streamed 88 million minutes of match coverage.
