ESPN Radio app goes live for iPhone

Live streams, podcasts, score updates and interactivity - and for a price, too!

Sports broadcaster ESPN has launched its latest iPhone application: ESPN Radio.

The app offers live streams of popular shows and stations from the company's radio division, as well as providing access to 35 of its podcasts.

The app also offers news and score updates and live play-by-play broadcasts, plus interactive features including the ability to text ESPN radio shows from within the app.

"Our mission is to serve sports fans the best audio wherever they are and whenever they want it on any device," says ESPN's VP of digital partnerships and sales development Marc Horine.

"The ESPN Radio app delivers that same great content to mobile listeners through a seamless audio experience while also allowing complete control to choose from their favourite stations, shows and podcasts."

The app costs $2.99 in the US App Store, although it's not available here in the UK.

ESPN is doing rather well from iPhone right now. According to MocoNews, its existing iPhone apps have been downloaded more than 4.5 million times in the last year, including 2.7 million downloads of its free ESPN ScoreCenter app.

The same article suggests the broadcaster is looking at launching a subscription-based iPhone version of its ESPN Insider scheme, using Apple's in-app payments technology.
