ESPN has secured the exclusive UK mobile rights to Premier League football highlights for the next three years, the broadcaster has announced.

That means it will be showing highlights from all 380 Premier League matches during the season, including in-match and post-match.

The company hasn't confirmed how it plans to deliver these highlights to UK footy fans yet, although it plans to announce its plans and products in the coming weeks.

We're assuming that apps for iPhone and other handsets will be a big factor, although there may be some operator deals to be done too.

"Mobile is an increasingly important technology as hand held devices become ever more sophisticated," says Premier League boss Richard Scudamore.

"Therefore a good offering with a strong partner is important to us both in terms of accessibility and complimenting live coverage."

The deal doesn't include live matches - they'll remain in the hands of BSkyB as part of its wider mobile TV licence.
