Empire takes mobile plunge

Empire takes mobile plunge

Empire Interactive has stepped up its mobile activity with the release of Pipemania through THQ Wireless.

The UK-based console and PC game publisher, best known for titles like Starsky & Hutch, Big Mutha Truckers, Ford Racing and FlatOut, has more mobile releases planned.

The original Pipemania puzzler was released in 1989 for PC and console platforms and was published in North America by LucasFilm. It was also one of the few titles to make the transition from console to the coin-op arcades.

“We are very excited to be working with THQ with their global distribution, unique technologies and well-known brands to bring PipeMania to the mobile platforms,” said Ian Higgins, CEO of Empire Interactive. “PipeMania is a renowned puzzle title that lends itself perfectly to mobile handsets.”

Adam Comiskey, VP of international at THQ Wireless, said: “Pipemania is a classic game franchise that has true mass market appeal, hence our decision to take the IP to the mobile space. The game works perfectly across the broad spectrum of mobile devices, providing real entertainment for mobile users."
