Several other airlines opting to issue staff with iPads.

Staff at Emirates Airlines have recently been issued with Windows 8-based tablets supplied by HP, bucking the trend of numerous other airlines that are currently providing their workforce with iPads.

Emirates’ Knowledge Driven Inflight Service (KIS) will run on the HP ElitePad 900 business tablet, which is to be launched shortly.

Khalid Bel Jaflah, vice president, East Africa Region, explained: "At Emirates we strive to deliver the world's best in-flight experience. To support our crew, we have created an application on Windows 8 that delivers a unique, personalised experience with the necessary information for our cabin crew to better serve the needs of customers."

The KIS application is used by pursers to brief the cabin crew before every flight, as well as to help them understand how to satisfy the requirements of passengers. Furthermore, the application can also be used by the crew to conduct in-flight upgrades for Emirates Skywards members.

Emirates Airlines will have 1,000 HP ElitePad 900 devices running the KIS application on Windows 8 following deployment across its fleet.
