EMI engages in Thumplay

EMI has joined the likes of Universal Music Group, Sony and Disney in making its content available on the Thumplay direct-to-consumer portal in the US.

Thumbplay customers now have access to ringtones and other content - though not full-track downloads at this stage - from the likes of 30 Seconds to Mars, Bubba Sparxxx, Coldplay, Fat Joe, Gorillaz and OK Go.

The content will be drawn from across EMI label portfolio, including Astralwerks, Blue Note, Capitol, Capitol Nashville, EMI Christian Music Group, EMI Televisa Music Manhattan and Virgin.

Consumers can purchase the content through both subscription and a la carte options, downloaded 'over the air' and charged directly to the carrier bill.

Thumbplay CEO Are Traasdahl said: "EMI Music has a tremendous catalogue of well-known and up-and-coming artists and we are thrilled to offer this access to our members. Coming off a very successful 2006, the agreement we have with EMI Music is the first of many new content agreements and product rollouts for Thumbplay in 2007.”

Barney Wragg, global head of digital at EMI Music, said: "EMI Music’s goal is to give fans a way to connect with its artists and enjoy their music whenever, however and wherever they are. Thumbplay is an excellent distribution platform because of its industry-leading customer service, credibility with consumers and innovative marketing efforts.”
