UK retailers HMV, Blockbuster and Jessops are having a rough old time at present, finding themselves victim to a closure crisis.
EE has now announced the termination of 78 stores, though it will open four new stores in new locations, the FT reports. It sounds a bit backwards, but the EE rebranding of all 700 Orange and T-Mobile stores in October means a number of locations are next to each other.
Meanwhile, staff are set to be kept on and moved to neighbouring stores to avoid redundancies, so it sounds like some venues will be rather overcrowded.
An EE spokesman, said: "As part of this [retail review], where we have two EE stores in very close proximity to each other – in some places they are just a door away – we have decided to consolidate.
"This makes commercial sense and will also help us manage the high levels of demand in our stores and improve the customer experience."
Indeed, new data from Virgin Media Business makes it certainly seem like the 'customer experience' could be improved with 90 per cent of Brits disinterested in changing operator for 4G contracts, currently only offered by EE.
