Mobile app store GetJar has revealed that instant messaging client eBuddy was downloaded 1.2 million times last week.

That's just the number of downloads on GetJar, too. The free Java app lets people combine various services in one app, including Yahoo, MSN, Facebook Chat, AIM, ICQ and Google Talk.

It's good news for eBuddy, and a testament to the growing GetJar community.

"Java continues to be a popular platform and this latest weekly eBuddy download figure is greater than some apps on our store achieve in a month," says Patrick Mork, VP of marketing at GetJar.

Social networking apps tend to be popular across the various app stores in operation today, partly because of their mainstream appeal, but also because they're usually free.
