eBay reveals Christmas boom in mobile activity

1.5 million items bought via its mobile apps and sites over the festive season.

eBay users bought more than 1.5 million items on the service via their mobile phones this Christmas, according to the company.

That's more than triple the mobile volume recorded by the site last Christmas.

Meanwhile, eBay says it's on track to generate more than half a billion dollars of transactions via mobile for 2009 as a whole.

The company's iPhone app has been downloaded more than six million times, and it's recording 750,000 unique visits a day via its various mobile apps.

More stats? An item sold every two seconds via eBay's mobile apps this year. And in case you were wondering if these are small purchases, mobile buys included a $75,000 Chevrolet Corvette, a $19,108 23-foot boat, and $10,025 for 250 grams of pure gold bullion.
