eBay expects to make $1.5bn from mobile in 2010

Helped by new eBay Selling app for iPhone.

eBay has launched two new iPhone apps, including one that lets people list items for sale in under 60 seconds.

However, the big statement in the accompanying press release is eBay's claim that it's on track to generate $1.5 billion in merchandise volume through its mobile services this year.

That compares to the $600 million it generated through mobile commerce last year.

But back to those new apps. The free eBay Selling app launches this Saturday (3rd April), and will let people list items for sale from their iPhones, complete with photographs taken with the device's camera.

Users will also be able to research sales trends and prices for similar items, share their listings on Facebook and Twitter, and link through to other eBay and PayPal iPhone apps.

Meanwhile, the second new app, eBay Classifieds, ties into the classified ads section of eBay. Again, users can post ads in less than 60 seconds according to eBay, with photos.
