EBay expects iPhone bonanza

Online retailer expects to generate revenues of $1.5-2bn from its app this year

EBay's iPhone app has been downloaded 10 million times to date and could generate $1.5-2bn of transactions for the company in 2010, having pulled in $600 million last year.

The factoids were revealed by EBay CEO John Donahoe at the All Things Digital Conference yesterday.

Back in March EBay said it expected to make $1.5 billion from mobile in 2010 as it introduced two new iPhone apps - one that allows users to submit and track bids and one that ties into the EBay Classifieds service.

EBay made its iPad debut in March, with Donoahoe stating that the app had experienced 'tremendous pick up' at yesterday's conference.
