IDC says year on year shipments rose 12 per cent and added that the smartphones segment exceeded the overall growth rate by leaping 51.5 per cent year-on-year and 21.4 per cent quarter-on-quarter.
It now has a 6.5 per cent share of the overall mobile phone market.
Meanwhile Dual-SIM handset grew 25.2 per cent over the previous quarter.
This puts the Indian market on target for 301 million units sold in 2015, of which 77.5 million will be smartphones.
Nokia led in feature phone and smartphone categories, with a 31.8 per cent and 35.3 per cent market share respectively Samsung was second with 17.5 per cent and 26 per cent.

Deepak Kumar, research director at IDC, said: The mobile phone shipments witnessed a spurt, as vendors built channel inventories ahead of a long festival season. Dual-SIM handset shipments were notable, with a sequential growth of 25.2 per cent over the previous quarter."
