Doodle Jump bounces onto Android with price hike

Still a high flyer at four times the price?

US developer Lima Sky's hugely popular iPhone game Doodle Jump has made the leap to Android, complete with a big price increase.

The game - published on Android by RealArcade - is selling for $3.99 on Android Market, compared to the $0.99 price point that's racked up more than two million purchases on iPhone.

According to Pocket Gamer, the Android version includes much of the extra content that's been added to the iPhone edition in updates, although Lima Sky says some of the themes (including the jungle one pictured above) haven't made the leap.

It will be fascinating to see how the game sells. Android Market has a mixed reputation with games developers - many complain that paid games aren't popular enough with Android users.

However, developers also express frustration with the downward pricing pressure on iPhone's App Store, so if Doodle Jump does do well on Android Market, more iPhone games may make the leap too.

There are signs that Android Market can be lucrative for the right app. The developer of Android app Car Locator just revealed that he's making $13,000 a month, for example.
