Flash of Genius gets knuckle-rapped for awards reference.
Developer Flash of Genius has revealed that Apple asked it to remove a reference to Google's Android Developer's Challenge contest in the App Store listing for its SAT Vocab iPhone app.
The Android version of the app made it into the top ten of Google's contest - something Flash of Genius was keen to flag up in the App Store listing for the iPhone version.
However, the company has published an email it received from Apple's approvals team, saying that the listing "contains inappropriate or irrelevant platform information". It explains further:
"Providing future platform compatibility plans or other general platform references are not relevant in the context of the iPhone App Store. While your application has not been rejected, it would be appropriate to remove “Finalist in Google’s Android Developer’s Challenge!” from the Application Description."
Well, it's their store. Mentioning a rival bang at the top of the listing was probably guaranteed to raise a red flag within Apple. Flash of Genius says it was happy to remove the reference.
