Distimo analytics show freemium revenues explosion for mobile games

Findings back up recent data from rival Flurry.

Mobile analytics firm Distimo has published its latest market report, focusing on mobile games revenues, and in particular the lucrative growth of freemium games on the various app stores.

The company claims that while the average selling price of smartphone games has shrunk by 28% over the last year, revenues from the most successful freemium games have increased by a factor of 10 during the same period.

The report also points specifically to Apple's App Store, where 35% of the 300 most popular free games in June are selling virtual currencies as a revenue stream.

Earlier this month, Distimo's US rival Flurry released its own report, claiming that players of freemium games for iOS and Android spend an average of $14 per in-app transaction, and that in-app purchases with a value greater than $20 account for 51% of the revenues for these games.

Distimo also highlights consolidation among iOS games publishers, claiming that 10 publishers account for more than half of all downloads from the 300 most popular paid games on the App Store.
