Buy the film or TV show once, and watch it on everything - including mobile.
All too often, the problem with mobile entertainment is that content owners expect consumers to effectively pay twice for the same stuff. You might own the DVD, but you'll have to pay again for a version you can play on your phone.
It seems Disney is looking to consign that model to history, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal about its new Keychest initiative.
In a nutshell, it will let people pay once for a movie or TV show, and get the rights to watch it across a range of devices, including web, iPhone and on-demand cable TV.
The WSJ suggests that Disney has been showing Keychest off to rival movie studios and device makers to try to gain their support. It also points out that Disney's largest shareholder is Apple, whose participation would be a big boost for the scheme.
The good thing about Keychest: it may help to fight piracy by positive means - giving consumers more freedom to watch the digital content that they have paid for, however they want.
