Swampy the alligator wants to know where his water is.
Mobile firms Rovio and Outfit7 have both talked about their ambitions to be 'the next Disney' with characters and brands spawned on mobile. Now Disney is taking them on, with its new iPhone game Where's My Water?
Well, sort of. Disney says the game is notable for being its first to feature an original game character: an alligator named Swampy.
The game is a physics-based action title, with a focus on guiding water to Swampy's bathtub in 80 levels. It's been developed by the team behind JellyCar, an innovative iPhone game that was signed up by Disney earlier this year.
“Where’s My Water? exemplifies Disney’s approach to mobile game development, which combines a compelling story with high production value, and great gameplay,” says GM of mobile Bart Decrem, who himself joined Disney when it bought his company Tapulous.
An alligator in a 69p game shouldn't be over-hyped in the wider scheme of Disney's corporate strategy, but it is nevertheless interesting to see the company releasing original IP on mobile. Gamers will decide if Swampy can take a bite out of Angry Birds and Talking Tom Cat, though.
