Bags biggest third-largest social game company on MySpace.
The deal will further heat up one of the hottest tech sectors, coming a few months after EA scooped up one of its other giants, Playfish.
Playdom is barely two years old, and has become a huge draw with titles such as Mobster on MySpace, where the game competition is thinner than Facebook.
Its launched its first iPhone game Mobsters Big Apple in July.
Its CEO is former EA COO John Pleasants, and it has around 600 employees. It raised a total of $76 million, with Disney’s Steamboat Ventures among the backers.
For Disney, the deal comes just a few days after it acquired Tapulous, the maker of iPhone music games, and represents a fresh acceleration into the new media space.
