Dentsu launches e-magazines iPhone app in Japan

More than 20 Japanese publishers are making their magazines available through a new iPhone app called MagaStore.

The app will be launched by local advertising firm Dentsu, and will cost 115 yen (£0.76) from the Japanese App Store. However, users will then pay between 115 yen and 600 yen (£0.76 - £3.99) to download the individual e-mags.

The app will launch with 30 different magazines from 20 publishers, including Conde Nast Japan, with aims to increase this to 50 magazines within the first year.

The application has been developed by Japanese firm YAPPA for Dentsu, and lets users flick pages by tapping the screen. They'll be able to buy current and back issues of the magazines, storing them in a 'MyShelf' section within the app.

Dentsu says that advertising won't be a factor at launch, but will be included later. The company also plans to launch MagaStore for other mobile platforms.

Expected to launch this summer, there's already an official website (in Japanese, naturally).
