French music streaming form goes the Spotify route and squeezes free plays.

Deezer is currently upgrading its website to HTML5 to offer richer features for users including Facebook integration, recommendation section, interactive picture walls and access to 30,000 personalisable internet radio stations.

But it's also seeking to convert listeners to an unlimited premium subscription costing 4.99 euros a month.

The company its premium service last year, and now has 1.2 million paying subscribers.

Last month, Deezer's close competitors Spotify reduced its free ad-funded service to ten hours a month, having shrunk it to 20 hours in 2010.
