Deezer launching in the UK this month

French streaming music service taking on Spotify with web, mobile and tablet access.

Streaming music service Deezer has been a big hit in its native France, thanks to a bundle deal with Orange. Now it's targeting the UK, launching on this side of the channel in September.

The service will go live with a catalogue of 13 million tracks, and several tiers through which users can access them. A free version will offer personal radio, but users will have to pay £4.99 for full on-demand access from their computers, and £9.99 if they want mobile and tablet access too. That's the same pricing as Spotify's similar offering.

Deezer will be offering users a 15-day free trial of the premium features, and has hired a local team for editorial recommendations and other content.

"We’re extremely excited to be launching Deezer here in the UK.  With easy access everywhere music fans will be able to enjoy music anywhere they like, at any time, and be able to share their music with their friends, easily and legally," says UK head Mark Foster.

Deezer has 20 million users globally, with six million unique monthly visitors. 1.2 million people are paying for the service. It has not yet announced any operator and/or ISP partnerships for the UK along the same lines as its Orange deal in France.
