DDR launches ValuText local offers service

Shopping mall group partners with Placecast to sends SMS offers to opted-in consumers when they enter a 'geofenced' area.

The partners say the combination of geofencing and the participation of a shopping mall owner makes this service more accessible than most of the local mobile shopping services in the market.

They say ValuText works on nearly all phone types, and merchandise values are delivered via text message without the burden of downloading or activating a smartphone app, checking into a virtual location or printing an actual coupon.

Consumers opt-in online and participating retailers can set up promotions free of charge.

Industry stats suggest geofence technology is compatible with 92 per cent of US mobile phones, and that more than six million people have used the technology to opt into programmes in the US and Europe.

“DDR is committed to ensuring that our retailers have every tool they need to succeed,” said John S. Kokinchak, SVP of DDR.

“ValuText helps our tenants by giving potential customers access to real-time, location-based offers, thereby driving traffic to their stores. In addition, the program creates value for shoppers by providing timely information at the exact point of purchase – the shopping centre.”

DDR owns and manages 538 shopping centres in 41 US states and in Puerto Rico and Brazil.
