This new 230-page industry report gives an exhaustive snapshot of the state of mobile penetration, operator market shares, ARPU, turnover, data usage, average user prices and third party services across 22 territories.

Selected findings include:

* 60 per cent of the premium SMS market in Australia is due to content downloads, 20 per cent promotions and voting and 15 per cent information news and alerts.

* In spite of overall decline in ARPU, Finland experienced a 14 per cent revenue growth in usage of data services in 2004.

* Germany is Europe 's largest mobile market with 67.6 million users. Premium content services now represent eight per cent of total revenues.

* More than 73 per cent of mobile phones in Japan are enabled for browsing high speed wireless Internet services.
