CTIA: Zeemote - games console for the masses?

Bluetooth joystick maker targets developing markets using the power of mobile 'AV out'.

Zeemote says the combination of its eponymous Bluetooth joystick and the ability of newer smartphones to plug straight into TV's could put a new spin on the games console experience.

In a demo running at CTIA this week the company is showing off a Nokia N95 running a Finblade-developed tennis game hooked up to a plasma TV screen, all controlled via its Bluetooth joystick.

Speaking to ME, Zeemote VP of sales and biz dev Jim Adams said the concept could prove a hit in emerging markets, where games consoles aren't as readily available as phones.

He added that the concept becomes doubly interesting when the Zeemote controller is used as a surrogate 'mouse' by people using handsets like the N95 to browse the web etc on a full screen TV.
