Project lets developers test apps and receive consumer feedback before commercial roll-out.
AT&T says this is the first program,e of its kind among US carriers, and it issued an open invitation to developers to submit apps at CTIA Wireless 2009.
"Our goal is to deepen the dialogue with developers and give customers a chance to tell us what works and what doesn't," said David Christopher, chief marketing officer for AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets.
"We hope that by facilitating this level of collaboration between the developer community and early adopters, we'll see even more innovation as developers gain valuable customer insights that will ultimately benefit their long-term application development and marketing strategies."
The aim is to help developers incubate their ideas and get direct feedback such as apps ratings, feature suggestions and bugs. An interactive community forum aggregates user-generated content, and offers tag clouds to indicate the most active discussions around various applications.
Apps that are particularly well-received may be made available to all AT&T customers through AT&T's content and multimedia storefront, AT&T MEdia Mall.
