Well, they've got to get into social location sometime...
Facebook may be mulling an acquisition of mobile social location service Loopt, according to a report on TechCrunch.
It claims that the social network is currently doing due diligence on the startup, although this hasn't been confirmed by either party.
Facebook is widely expected to be increasing its efforts to add location to its mobile services. Currently, its mobile apps and site are focused around status updates and content, but without a big focus on location elements.
In its absence, startups like Foursquare, Gowalla, Loopt, Rummble and Booyah's MyTown game have prospered, signing up hundreds of thousands of users.
However, Facebook's booming popularity on phones - it now has more than 100 million mobile users - means that it could have a huge impact on the social location space, either with an acquisition or organic in-house development.
