Hearst Magazines UK has done a deal with Zappar to enhance the December covers of Cosmopolitan, Company and Harper’s Bazaar.

Readers have to download the free Zappar App to access all the extras.

These include a Harper’s Bazaar cover featuring five of the world’s top supermodels (on sale Thursday, November 3rd); singer Jessie J on the cover of Cosmopolitan (on sale Monday November 7th) and TV presenter Caroline Flack on Company’s December cover (on sale November 10th).

Arnaud de Puyfontaine, CEO of Hearst Magazines UK, said: “Interacting with our readers beyond the printed page is a key part of our business strategy so we are delighted to be partnering with Zappar to bring this exciting and innovative technology to our portfolio of brands.

This partnership further demonstrates the many ways in which we can enhance our brands, from apps to mobile sites, providing our readers and web users with that all important multi-media, interactive experience.”

AR specialist Zappar has worked with Warner Bros on posters for The Green Lantern and other movies, but is now aiming to make this a 'new way of thinking about in-store POS, marketing signage & exhibition promotions'.

This is not the first time AR has been used on the cover of a mag. Esquire did it back in 2009 on a Robert Downey Jr cover.
