The Viber app was launched on iPhone at the end of 2010, allowing users to make free international calls and texts to other Viber users via 3G and wi-fi.
It has since launched on Android, which is presumably what supported the service to secure over 50 million registers users.
Additionally, Viber says users its platform supports over a billion minutes of calls each month, and almost one billion text messages, according to TechCrunch.
Viber is currently being used on over 193 countries, making over 150 million calls monthly and sending more than 20 million multimedia messages.
VoIP is a popular space, as consumers search for the best way to communicate to overseas contacts. It's dominated by the likes of Microsoft-owned Skype, though others such as last week's App Of The Day, Vonage, are equally eager secure a strong user base.
