One of the most commented-upon elements of the US election was the importance of social networking to the campaign process.

It was especially remarkable considering that Facebook was barely months old when the 2004 election took place, and YouTube had yet to be invented.

Social networking has swept across the internet like a storm. According to comScore, 580.5 million internet users were networking socially on the web as of June 2008. In the last two years, the web giants have started to target mobile.

In its August ‘State of the Mobile Web’ report, browser vendor Opera confirmed that MySpace and Facebook were the most visited mobile sites (in the US) after Google.

We shouldn’t be surprised that social networks are making the switch to the small screen so successfully...
