New strategy for one of Silicon Valley's most notorious duds.
Color raised $41 million for its weirdly nebulous photo-based social network.
It was such a flop that it became synonymous with the wild hype around mobile 2.0 properties.
The firm was started by serial entrepreneur Bill Nguyen, who was best known for selling his cloud music business Lala for $80m to Apple.
He admitted publicly that Color 'totally fucked up' and announced in September that the firm would move towards live video-streaming and work closely with the Facebook platform.
The new app has been tried by TechCrunch, and includes a feed of friend photos and a visual Timeline view for browsing pics. But the big new addition is the ‘Visit’ – a 30 sec clip which serves as a status update.

Bravely, these clips don't include any audio.
Any new Visit posted promotes a push notification to other Color app and is uploaded to Facebook. Users can also see who viewed their clip, LinkedIn style.

The idea of a 30 second clip for a status update is brilliant. I have always wondered why a lot of these social media giants have not yet integrated a way for users to upload short videos especially now that there are 4G smartphones and high quality capture cameras. I believe that video updates will be great for brands and consumers both as videos are normally more engaging and more interesting.
