Cognitive Maps raises $1.5m for Hitlantis

Promises to continue working on 'the future of content discovery'.

Finnish startup Cognitive Maps has announced a $1.5 million angel funding round, with participation from senior Nokia executives and a host of other investment firms and private individuals.

The company has its own music discovery platform, which started life as a website, and then expanded to iPhone and iPad - a move that has increased Hitlantis' users by 40% according to the company.

"This investment from prominent European investors is a critical validation, but even more encouraging has been the response we've received while meeting with top brands, and media companies in New York, San Francisco and presently in Los Angeles," says co-founder Timo Poijarvi.

"It's clear the future of content discovery has taken a radical - and much needed - leap forward with our advent, and we plan further innovation with our next itineration."

His comments hint at expanding Hitlantis to cover other forms of media beyond music - a path already trodden by Australian startup Filter Squad, which started with an app called Discovr Music and then recently used the technology for Discovr Apps.
