Citrix buys Bytemobile

Acquisition gives cloud services firm an 'in' with 130 operators in 60 countries.

Bytemobile is specialist in data compression, which has led it to develop video optimisation technologies targeted at traffic-squeezed mobile networks.

Its customers today serve more than two billion subscribers and process more than 20 petabytes of data traffic through customer networks every day.

The two firms were strategic partners before this buy-out, and Citrix reckons that a converged offer of Bytemobile's Smart Capacity technology with its own NetScaler cloud networking solution will give operators even more control over the dreaded data crunch.

“The cloud and mobile revolutions are rapidly converging, and mobile operators are at the heart of this convergence,” said Klaus Oestermann, group vice president and general manager of cloud networking at Citrix.

“With the integration of Bytemobile technology, products and intellectual capital, Citrix will be uniquely positioned to be a leader in the global mobile data and video infrastructure market in the LTE era.”
