51% are downloading apps and games to their mobile phones.
51% of Chinese mobile users are downloading apps and games to their phones, according to a survey conducted by market research firm Canalys.
That's compared to 22% of users in France, Germany and the UK.
However, even more interesting is the finding that app downloads are far from just a smartphone phenomenon in China. In fact, the market is being driven as much by Java games and apps on feature phones.
The most popular app category in terms of downloads in China is Books, with 68% of app downloaders saying that they read e-books on their phones. For 16-25 year-olds, that rises to 76%.
Weather, news, navigation and mapping apps are also popular.

The survey found that Chinese users are also more willing than Westerners to pay for mobile access to social networking services, although Qzone rather than Facebook is the dominant player there.
"Consumers in China already show an increasing affinity for application downloads that go beyond smart phones," says senior analyst T Y Lau.
"As new devices are brought to market, such as e-book readers and pads, vendors must be ready to rejuvenate existing content and engage their developer communities to support the leap to larger screen sizes."
