China's second biggest operator launched its Wo-plus platform last week in an attempt to accelerate its activity around its Wophone OS and Wostore apps and mobile web portal.
It also confirmed alliances with 31 industry partners including Baidu, Huawei and Telefonica.
China Unicom has 190m customers, of which 33.15m are on 3G. Meanwhile the Wostore portal, through which consumers can download apps, has 3m users,16,000 products and a total of 60 million downloads since opening last year.
This is good, but still some way behind the big daddy of the market, China Mobile. Its app store was launched in August 2009 and now has over 100,000 apps.
Wostore was launched 12 months ago, and has 3 million registered users, 16,000 applications and 60 million downloads to date.
