China Mobile added a mere 5.6 million customers in July, a new record.
The customer additions largely resulted from the operator’s rural penetration strategy and managed to surpass the 5.53 added in June. China Mobile also outpointed its rival China Unicom, which could only manage 1.46 million new customers.China Mobile said 5.22 million of its new customers in July were pre-paid and 380,000 were contract customers. Its total base is now 337.97 million.
Analysts say the the current growth rate will give China Mobile 63 million new subscribers for 2007.
