More than 4.3m people spent more money via mobile than PC in 2012.

New data from Alibaba-owned online payments provider Alipay says it experienced a 546 per cent increase of mobile payments year-on-year in 2012, adding that the number of people using the payment method grew by 223 per cent, Cellular News reports.

The firm says paying via mobile is becoming something of a habit for online shoppers, as 4.3 million people spent more money via their phones than on PCs.

It says small cities have a higher penetration of mobile phones than PCs, which means mobile web consumption is higher than fixed broadband.
