China Mobile added just over 4.2 million new subscribers, taking its total base to nearly 522.3 million.
China Unicom added 640,000 new GSM subscribers, and 920,000 WCDMA 3G subscribers. It now has 144.8 million GSM customers and 2.74 million 3G subscribers.
China Telecom added 3.1 million CDMA subscribers, taking its base to nearly 56.1 million.
The country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said the telecom industry's operating revenues were RMB 77.8 bln ($11.4 billion) in December 2009. It added that 67.35 billion SMS messages were sent during the month, a 10.2 per cent increase over a year ago.
