Joint research into content services and opportunities for Japanese handset makers to export devices.
The Nikkei business daily (via Reuters) reports that China and Japan are about to unveil an major initiative to develop China's 3G market.
The move follows news last month that China Mobile was asking overseas handset makers for help to solve "severe" problems it was experiencing with its proprietary TD-SCDMA network technology.
Now the Nikkei has reported that Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will unveil a new devices and services initiative on Wednesday.
It will encompass both the procurement of 3G devices from Japanese vendors (who have always struggled in China) and R&D into content and applications.
