The web is awash with rumours that EA – or maybe Gameloft or DeNa or Microsoft or Activision – is preparing a swoop for successful iPhone publisher Chillingo.
All Things Digital claims that EA is close to finalising a deal, though adds that the others are also hovering.
The purchase price is vague – estimates point to anything between $80 and $200m.
ME asked Chillingo director Chris Byatte to comment and the response was the expected 'no comment'.
If the rumours are true, it's an interesting one. The market is hotting up now, thanks to big money swoops by Disney for Tapulous, EA for Playfish and DeNA for Ngmoco.
Chillingo has been fabulously successful of late: Angry Birds has shifted in excess of 6.5m units on iPhone while the more recent Cut the Rope sold one million in 36 hours.

But it's also true that Chillingo, for all its success, is a publisher, and does not own the IP to these titles.
